One is immediately mesmerized by the artwork of Ron Parker. The sensual and poetic lines, the text and the bold color demand your attention.
There is empathy, humor, and sophisticated commentary about the meaning and madness of the human condition. Ron Parker is a man of many talents and accomplishments. He studied at Vanderbilt University where he received his M.A. and Ph.D in psychology. Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in two states, Dr. Parker also practiced as a therapist. After his academic years, Parker became CEO of an international management consulting company with clients in Iran, Nigeria, Europe and North America. (Clients included Howard Hughes, Governor Reagan, Governor Carter and Governor Wallace, RCA, GTE and Random House). During his late thirties, Parker entered the art world as President of Circle Fine Art Company (NASDAQ listed). Two years later, he established Dyansen Galleries which he took public within three years. His interest in art began as a 17 year old freshman in college while taking Fine Art 101. Here he was introduced to a world of beauty and sophistication unknown to a naïve young Texan.
By 19, he was in Paris absorbing everything he could from the French museums and buying his first work of art, a reproduction of an impressionist French street scene, which he proudly gave to his Mother. Throughout Parker’s adult life he enjoyed drawing and sculpting. He also found time to be a nationally syndicated columnist, an author of one book and fifteen monographs, and also became an off-Broadway performance artist (Love Lessons and Lies) The most enduring theme of his work has been the American Flag, which he has included in his work for over 20 years. Over 200 flags have been created on almost every imaginable surface (e.g., auto hoods, barn doors, paint sticks). As patriotism is reflected in his obsession with creating variations on a theme of the American flag, Parker’s spiritual dimension is best reflected in two sculptures called, Love and Life. In all of these works, Parker symbolically explores the many facets of love. One of the most unusual Parker accomplishments was to create Parker People with his wife Yvonne (she completes the line drawings by adding color). As a Psychologist, Parker is a keen observer of people. Parker People is a series of paintings and mixed media drawings (on various substrates) which explore people’s private thoughts, dreams, fantasies and fears. Parker’s inspirations for these people are the people around him. He listens to them and carefully watches.
Parker People have been called The Far Side with humans and always off-center, but on-target. Parker expresses his observations and his beliefs in paint and in words on canvas, paper and porcelain. Parker People have been called ribald, risqué, politically incorrect, iconoclastic and irreverent. Others have noted that Parker People represent life affirming art when Parker profiles the more positive aspects of humanity.
